چکیده

Abstract Statistical Isotropy of the Cosmic Microwave Background (CMB) radiation has been studied and debated extensively in recent years. Under this assumption, hot spots cold CMB are expected to be uniformly distributed over a 2-sphere. We use orientation matrix, first proposed by Watson (1965) Scheidegger associated shape strength parameters (Woodcock, 1977) analyse whether observed temperature anisotropy field placed. demonstrate usefulness our estimators using simulated toy models containing non-uniform data. apply method on several foreground minimized maps WMAP Planck large angular scales. The constrain geometric features possible deviations from uniformity (isotropy) power anomalous signal. find that distributions or cleaned show no unusual signature clustering girdling. Instead, we notice strikingly uniform distribution full sky. signal remains robust with respect four used presence absence non-Gaussian spot (NGCS). On partial sky KQ75 U73 masks anomalously low non-uniformity for which is found various cleaning methods, applied, instruments, frequencies, NGCS. Planck 2013 results. XXIII. Isotropy and statistics of the CMB

The two fundamental assumptions of the standard cosmological model – that the initial fluctuations are statistically isotropic and Gaussian – are rigorously tested using maps of the cosmic microwave background (CMB) anisotropy from the Planck satellite. The detailed results are based on studies of four independent estimates of the CMB that are compared to simulations using a fiducial ΛCDM model...

The Hot and Cold Spots in the Wmap Data Are Not Hot and Cold Enough

This paper presents a frequentist analysis of the hot and cold spots of the Cosmic Microwave Background (CMB) data collected by the Wilkinson Microwave Anisotropy Probe (WMAP). We compare the WMAP temperature statistics of extrema (number of extrema, mean excursion, variance, skewness and kurtosis of the excursion) to Monte-Carlo simulations. We find that, on average, the local maxima (high tem...

The hot and cold spots in five-year WMAP data

We present an extensive frequentist analysis of the one-point statistics (number, mean, variance, skewness and kurtosis) and two-point correlation functions determined for the local extrema of the cosmic microwave background temperature field observed in five-years of Wilkinson Microwave Anisotropy Probe (WMAP) data. Application of a hypothesis test on the one-point statistics indicates a low-v...

Measuring Statistical Isotropy of the Cmb Anisotropy

The statistical expectation values of the temperature fluctuations of cosmic microwave background (CMB) are assumed to be preserved under rotations of the sky. This assumption of statistical isotropy (SI) of the CMB anisotropy should be observationally verified since detection of violation of SI could have profound implications for cosmology. We propose a set of measures, κl (l = 1, 2, 3, . . ....

Statistical Isotropy of CMB Polarization Maps

We formulate statistical isotropy of CMB anisotropy maps in its most general form. We also present a fast and orientation independent statistical method to determine deviations from statistical isotropy in CMB polarization maps. Importance of having statistical tests of departures from SI for CMB polarization maps lies not only in interesting theoretical motivations but also in testing cleaned ...
